Toss & Fetch Freestyle Fanatics
It’s been a busy couple of weeks. Since bringing Lei home, I’ve become “new mother” again (and getting much less sleep), plus Lilli had her first 2 competitions: Freestyle Toss and Fetch (last weekend) and AKC Agility Trial (this weekend).

A disc-loving friend of ours, Ron Watson, just so happens to have a high-flying Leilani of his own – Leilani Kai. He shared a video of them in action and I thought you’d all love to see it. I’m hoping the Leilani name has something to say about her passion for the disc!
When Lilli Flips…She Flies!
Since the last time we posted about Lilli’s flips, there has been significant improvement. I think, once again, all it took was time – consistent practice and tweaking technique. Flips – first of all – aren’t something that just anyone should do with their dog. Flipping itself can seriously injur the dog’s spine and hips and the landing takes a toll on the whole body of the dog. That said – it’s about the coolest thing you can teach. There’s nothing in the world like your dog 5 feet up in the air upside down with a disc in their mouth! 
Freestyle Routine ready to hit new Heights
We’ve taken it pretty slow when it comes to training Lilli. Our practice and routines really accelerated when we met John and he became our canine freestyle coach. Even still, we have not met with John in a few months, pretty much practicing the same elements. Flips and Zig Zags (or Back and Forths). Andrea has really mastered the throwing style for the Zig Zags. Short and leaned in for optimal grabbing, she has Lilli cutting hard back and forth to get the disc. For me Lilli is still extending the run after the catch, primarily because I am tossing the disc out a bit to far. I have nailed the around the world, freestyle tosses, and flips, primarily on the right side. Lilli really goes after the flips these days, you can almost see the determination in her eyes to go bigger, higher, stronger.
