Treadmill Exercise for Dog

We got a treadmill for us and the dogs to run on.  Thanks to a lucky Ebay search it was a really great deal.  Since we are committed to watching all our favorite shows, we might as well get some exercise at the same time.  And when the weathe routsid eis frightful, we can giv ethe dogs some exercise for healthy and mood purposes.

Sasha needs it more for her health, she is older and lazie rthese days, and Lilli gets most of the exercise opportunities, and the treadmill will help with days when Lilli is hyper and ready to play and we can’t or won’t go outside.

We ran with both of the dogs 3 times so far.  On her third run, we gave Lilli a shot at running on her own, without a leash.  She ran for several minutes with no leash, only Andrea in front of her giving encouragement.  Once we found the right speed for the dogs and gave them lots of encouragement, they both seemed to get in a work mode and settle in for a good jog.

After a few more sessions I expect Lilli will be great at running on her own.  So far we have only tried a jog, I need to research others who have use dthe treadmill to see what the safety issues are, what speeds and variations are recommended.  A potential side effect would be to build Lilli’s endurance, jogging in a tight space, etc.
